Susannah MacMillan
My artistic practice is informed by deep research into place achieved by living and working in the same environment.
I am inspired by the wildness, heritage and sense of place from my home on the Keills Peninsula and West Coast of Scotland.
Running and maps are the resources I use and method I practise. Running the terrain is an essential part of my work. I incorporate the element of journey and my work describes the experience of moving through a landscape .I orienteer as a sport as well as running and this further informs my practice.
As well as working from my studio at Keills I often travel to the Outer Hebrides.
I particularly love the these islands, and their exposed raw wildness.
I am also interested in exploring the crofting way of life which much of my Hebrides work seeks to record.
I trained at The Glasgow School or Art in the Drawing and Painting school.
